Do You Know the Correct Use of Paper Straw?
According to risk monitoring, there are three main forms of harm to consumers caused by paper straws:
Soaking in a drink at a certain temperature, the paper straw is to become soft, and foamed, affecting the user experience. When the deformation is serious, the paper fiber of the straw will dissolve into the drink.
- Odor and discoloration
Soluble organic substances, chemical additives, and other toxic and harmful substances in the raw materials of paper straws may migrate into the drink during use. Thus affecting the normal metabolism of the human body and endangering human health.
- Toxic and harmful dissolved matter
Toxic and harmful substances such as soluble organic substances (starch, polyvinyl alcohol, lignin, etc.) and chemical additives (such as acrylamide) in the raw materials of paper straws may migrate to drinks during the use of disposable straws, thus affecting the normal metabolism of the human body and endangering human health.
How to buy paper straws?
- When purchasing paper straws, try to choose regular channels such as supermarkets to buy products produced by regular manufacturers. For "three no" products without product name and model, manufacturer, warning and other descriptions, and products with peculiar smell, try to avoid purchasing.
- When using the paper straw, the immersion time in the drink should not be too long, and it is recommended not to exceed 1 hour. The temperature of the beverage should not be too high to avoid the risk of deformation and foaming of the paper straw during use, resulting in the increased dissolution of organic matter.
- The paper straw with fewer layers can be selected, because the multi-layer straw may migrate into the drink during long-time immersion. Try to avoid using brightly printed paper straws.
